Shit Watch 2006.

The rotavirus has hit the Booty home, making for one raw Baby Booty booty.

We're on Day Six, and have now made the difficult decision to forgo our upcoming Michigan trip in which we'd planned a family camp out on the way up & on the way back, visiting with the grands and a great grand; hanging with the so very wonderful extended Christenson clan to celebrate Ben's high school graduation & Mandy's college graduation and marking Memorial Day with a trip to the family plot in White Cloud, crazy competitive Christenson croquet and the meeting of our newest family member, a nephew, born in February.

Alas and alack, no journey mojo is with us. Ziggy needs home and the very young and the very elderly do not need the Booty family's booty germs.

So. Here we shall remain.

Could be days more of this puke and poop fest; My Beloved Mister is operating at less than optimal capacity and even poor Bert the Dog is pukey & puny. Only Ms. Booty H. has thus far escaped the funk.

Booty Family on WSMV.

During yesterday's park visit, WSMV News Channel 4 came to visit & film. My friend Barbara is on with her dog, and there's Mama Booty, Bert & Ziggy. Barbara is absolutely hilarious.

This mama is FAR from looking her best here w/ dirty hair in need of some serious attention and grungy frumperella dog park clothes w/ holes, but I reckon there are some of you other stay at home / work at home mamas who look as much a fright!! Let it be said, however, that Bert looks great and so does my sweet Ziggy-- there's a big close up of him that just melted Daddy Booty.

AW.

Execution Scheduled for Tonight.

FINAL Update and Instructions for Execution Night Vigil

Riverbend Prison, 7475 Cockrell Bend Blvd., Nashville

As you may know after a hearing, the state's probation and parole board recommended that the governor delay Sedley Alley's execution until DNA testing is done on several items found at the crime scene.

At this moment the execution remains on and so do our vigils statewide. There are two possible tracks that could stop the execution. Either Governor Bredesen steps forward and, in line with the board’s recommendation to him, issues a temporary reprieve and makes the DNA testing possible, or a court hearing one of Sedley Alley’s appeals on the same issue or on lethal injection protocol and stays the execution.

Therefore please continue to call Governor Bredesen at 615-741-2001 or 615532-4562 and then e-mail him through this page asking him to issue a temporary reprieve and require DNA testing to be done.

The Tennessee Coalition to Abolish State Killing (TCASK) will not stand down until and unless there is certainty that the scheduled execution of Sedley Alley is stopped for now. Okay, now the scoop for tonight in Nashville (for info on other vigils click here)…

WHAT: Interfaith Service followed by a Vigil (Witness) to the execution of Sedley Alley
WHEN: 9:00 – 10:00 pm (Interfaith Service)
10:00 pm - ~1:05 am (Vigil)

WHERE: Riverbend Maximum Security Institute (RMSI), 7475 Cockrell Bend Blvd
(west end of property – drive until Cockrell Bend dead-ends)

WHY: Because we oppose, some for moral and others for practical reasons, the use of violence by the state as a policy response to the tragedy of murder in our community (both real and imagined). We will pray and vigil for the pain and anguish suffered by the parents and relatives of Suzanne Marie Collins as well for the children and relatives of Sedley Alley who, as the product of state policy are asked to become, like the Collins’ family members, survivors of homicide victims.

RULES: TCASK as an organization expects any individuals or groups of individuals attending a vigil to conduct themselves in accordance with the general principles of non-violence.

Do BRING a camping (folding) chair to sit in and make yourself comfortable.
Do NOT bring anything that could be construed as a weapon ANYWHERE on your person or in your car.
Do NOT bring any non-prescription drugs or alcohol in your vehicle.
The utmost respect for the victim’s family in both conduct and statements should be shown. Employees of Riverbend Maximum Security Institute (RMSI) are not to be the target of any negative statements. Anyone making personal statements against a guard or other RMSI employee will be asked to leave the premises.

EXPECT: For your vehicle and person to be searched by Highway Patrolpersons and/or RMSI guards.

For there to be drug-sniffing dogs used to search your vehicle.

For helicopters to be part of the security regimen.

Expect tents to offer cover from inclement weather.

For TCASK to have trained peacekeepers on site to help manage the emotions of the evening. Therefore, expect to be in a safe space both physically and emotionally.

For pro-execution people to be at the prison but kept apart from our service and vigil.

It to be chilly and damp – dress accordingly.

Cozy.

All I really want to do today, after all the work that led up to a really great Mother's Day Event and carrying it all out, is cozy up with my baby boy and have a read along / nurse along. And snacks. Lots of snacks.

Given my druthers, I'd curl up with him in this quilt, here photographed by Angela sometime last month during a mama party. This quilt used to be on our bed, but since replacing the queen with the king for the big family bed, the quilt is now our favorite cozy blanket on the sofa and and for going from here to yon.

Instead of languishing in all that sweet cozying downtime with Ziggy, I'm compiling stuff from yesterday's Parade, catching up a little on laundry, and completing a couple reviews for Puremusic. Here in a bit, I'll need to start supper and do the ten minute tidy in each room.

Happy Mother's Day & Boundless Gratitude.

It is good, so very very good, to be a mama.

My baby boy and my Beloved Mister, they are helping make me into the woman I always hoped I might could be. I've got a long way to go, but they've made me better than I was and would be without them.

Happy Mother's Day. To Diggy, who gave me life and the joy for living it. To Emmie, who has taken me in like one of her own. To Dana and Jolie and Sharon and Karen and Mama Loca and others who have throughout the years, allowed me into some of the deepest moments of their mothering small and growing children, and mothering ourselves and one another. There are so many others to whom I am indebted for their investment in me as a person and therefore of me as a mama. My gratitude for each of you is enormous.

And to my two men: To the moon and back. You are the heart of my world.

92 Year Old Grandmother for Peace is Honored Guest at Parade.

Nashville Mothers Acting Up Reclaim Mother's Day

May 13, 2006 (Nashville)

Mothers Acting Up, a national organization devoted to the protection and prioritization of childrens' health and well-being around the world, is hosting Nashville's FIRST Annual Mother's Day Parade for Peace!! Come join with mothers and others and march through the heart of Hillsboro Village, gather at Dragon Park (Fannie Mae Dees Park) for music, entertainment, FREE PIE and more and celebrate the force and unity of Mothers rallying on behalf of children!!

Nashville joins dozens of other communities around the country this Mother's Day (Sunday, May 14th), to celebrate the day as it was originally envisioned by Julia Ward Howe in 1870: a day when mothers would gather to protect the lives of our human family and call for a better world for ALL of the children of the world.

Mothers Acting Up is dedicated to mobilizing the gigantic political strength of mothers*(and let's include fathers, grandfathers, grandmothers, friends, everyo ne!!) to ensure the health, education and safety of every child, not just a privileged few. We realize that we live in a world that does not prioritize or protect our children's well-being and that this will not change without each of us finding the courage and commitment to speak out on their behalf.

Envision an event that is part celebratory, part consciousness/awareness raising and ALL activist! Parades and rallies in other cities have included speakers, music, costumes, stilt-walking, kids activities - anything you can think of!!! Nashville is centering its event around a mobilize the mamas for the MDGs campain which is two pronged and aimed at Katie Couric nationally and Demetria Kalodimos nationally.

Phyllis Rodin, 92-year-old Grandmother for Peace, has travelled to Nashville from Northampton, Mass. to attend the city's First Annual Mother's Day Parade for Peace A lifelong peace activist, Rodin is a regular at anti-war demonstrations and peace rallies. She ran for mayor of Northampton last year, at age 91, spurred on by a conversation with a young boy about world peace.Rodin said she felt obligated to help make the world a better place for the boy, who had complimented a sign she frequently carries that reads: 'War is not the answer.'
Although she didn't win the election, she succeeded in her goal of "stir[ring] up the waters that are murky." Rodin celebrated her 92nd birthday on May 10. She will be the oldest attendee of Sunday's parade.

Hosted by Mothers Acting Up, the Mother's Day Parade for Peace is co-sponsored by Nashville Peace & Justice Center, Code Pink, Wild Oats, Plum Good Food, Nashville Peace Coalition, More Than Warmth, and Organic Lawn & Pasture.

Over one hundred attendees from all walks of life are expected as of this writing.

MOTHERS ACTING UP HOSTS MOTHER’S DAY PARADE AND RECLAIMS MOTHER’S DAY

Web-based Grassroots Movement Mobilizes Thousands of Mothers* To Move From Concern To Action
“It’s time to invest in the global family and divest from war”

May 1, 2006, [Nashville, TN] – Mothers Acting Up (MAU), an organization dedicated to mobilizing the gigantic political strength of mothers* to ensure the health, education and safety of every child, along with Nashville Peace & Justice Center, CodePink, Peace Roots Alliance, Wild Oats and Plum Good Food today announced that on Mother’s Day, May 14, at 12:30pm, mothers and their families will come together at Fannie Mae Dees Park (Dragon Park) to express their personal commitment and invite their communities to join them to prioritize and protect children.

On Mother’s Day weekend, Mothers Acting Up (MAU) will host events—ranging from mini tea parties, to radio addresses, to outrageously costumed parades—that reclaim Mother’s Day as it was originally envisioned in 1870; a day when mothers would gather to protect the lives of our human family. After the Civil War Julia Ward Howe wrote in her journal, "Why do not the mothers of mankind interfere in these matters, to prevent the waste of that human life that they alone bear and know the cost?"

Drawing on Julia Ward Howe's original vision of a Mother’s Day for Peace, MAU began in 2002 with one event in Boulder, Colorado and has spread rapidly due to the resonance of its message with people from all walks of life. Over the past three years, MAU has hosted 45 events from Sitka, Alaska to Memphis, Tennessee, all organized by mothers*, many of whom had never taken political action before. Along with Boulder, Parades will be held in Vashon Island, Seattle, Denver, Nashville, Manhattan, the Bronx and more. This movement is enabling mothers* to find their voice and move from concern to action at the local, national and global level.

The purpose of the 2006 MAU Mother’s Day celebrations is to inspire, educate and engage local communities to move from concern to action on issues confronting children worldwide. The events will include national collective action to educate communities about the US commitment to fund the Millennium Development Goals, a set of 8 goals to halve extreme poverty by the year 2015. “It’s time to invest in the global family and divest from war.” The action will be directed at Katie Couric and locally respected media figures –- Demetria Kalodimos in Nashville!!-- requesting their leadership in reaching a million mothers* who in turn will educate our communiti es and enter our halls of Congress to insist not another new nickel is spent the military until the Millennium Development Goals are funded. One event will have 8 mothers* on stilts depicting each of the MDGs!

Nashville organizers Paige La Grone Babcock and Kate Wingate met on a peace march earlier this year. Both mothers of young children, they immediately began to dream of a Mother’s Day reclamation event. In its inaugural year, the Nashville Mother’s Day Peace Parade will begin with gathering at Dragon Park for tricycle, wagon, stroller & wheelchair decorating. The Parade through Hillsboro Village will commence at 1:30 and return to the park at 2400 Blakemore where there will be a reading of Julia Ward Howe’s Mother’s Day Proclamation, entertainment, fellowship and refreshment. Local children’s entertainer Nate the Great will juggle and perform other feats of daring do; Nashville acoustic aggregate The Contrarians will provide a lively string band soundtrack. Wild Oats and Plum Good Food will provide cake, juice and water for Mother’s Day revelers.

May Day!

Happy May Day.

Are you taking it to the streets, or stuttering like a falling pilot, May Day, May Day, May Day.... ?

A bit of both around these parts of late.

With a mere two weeks 'til the big Mother's Day Parade for Peace, there's lots to do and street taking to be had. And in the last few homebound days, lots of holding, and one big long nurse in for the peace of this little family.

Ziggy had a highly active month six into seven: no less than three birthday parties to attend, one bridal shower, grandparents and cousins to visit and love on, a trip to see Mama Loca and family, the adnenture of solid food.

(To date, the eats, aside from the number one nutrient breastmilk:
sweet potato, applesauce, some bits of breads (including naan, of course), bananas, homemade oatmeal porridge, some beans smooshed out of their skins, and avocado. Organic brown rice and carrots are next up, and as our CSA weekly box begins next week, we'll be happily up to our eyeballs in the freshest organic produce locally available.)

Our household has increased by a tooth, with arrival of lanother imminent. There's rolling over in both directions, sitting for lengthy periods, the pre-crawl arms and knees beneath Baby Booty boogie. There's even been pulling up, for which I'm SOOOOO not ready. There are signs here and again, and LOTS of verbalization including actual spoken words for Daddy ("Da" or "DaDa"), Mama / nurse ("NiNi"), dog ("gock"), Bert ("Buht") and light ("aght"). There's fascination with and great joy for the nightly mama / baby bath, lights of all kinds, ceiling fans, the very presence of Bert the Dog, kisses both given and received, and a passion for being out of doors whenever possible. That one has saved us over the last few days. Baby in sling, dog on leash, mama in shoes: walking.

Then boom, boom, boom:

Mama Booty got the tummy bug.

There was the great Baby Tump on Wednesday.
Ziggy. Fell. Out. Of. Bed.
Awful.
Wretched.
And seemingly common amongst my mama friends who offered up much comfort and commentary of the ilk, "Oh, yeah, that's a bad day" and "I'll never forget that sound."

The following day: Daddy went on much deserved and sadly ill fated trip to New Orleans and NiNi and boy child went to his well baby visit with some shots and left with the news that Ziggy's iron was low (not surprising, I suppose, given his size and early surgery).

All of this means: one very sensitive testy baby child and one worn out Mama Booty with the dark circles and toothmarked bosom to prove it. And everything else sadly badly behind....

May Day!!
