Paige, I am so uplifted with your journey. It is an amazing life. Our parents are everything to us when we are little, know NOTHING when we are know - it - alls, are the rocks of Gibraltar when we are young parents, are all knowing about so much when we find they will go away - never to see them again....for always. My dad has been dead for over 10 years and I still talk to him & see him in my garden. I never knew my Mom until half my life was over. (She was pretty much my "enemy" for much of that time!!) We became so close when my son was born and for all the 20+ years after that. In her last year of her life, she became MY child and I was her rock. I still miss her today and see her in the things I have of hers.... knowing how gently she touched them - china, watercolor paintings, my son - and me. I now see so many ways how both of them continue to live in me---in my actions, sayings, in their grandchild/ren. Their life is wonderful...even after we don't see them any more...because they continue to live.

Ugh. Health be with you.

I spent a week of my own precious vacation time in the hospital with our girl, not fun. "Club Lakeland" is what we called it...they attend to your every need, and knew my coffee order by Day 2, but...it's hard approaching a whole calendar year of hell knowing any time off will be, you know, on me, unpaid. Glad of the job and all but I feel a slight need to whine after sleeping on a pull-out chair for 6 nights!

However. She learned how to play War and Solitaire, and learned a new stitch to knit, and we got a great novel read. Not all bad. And: time with the girl DOES beat working, any day!
