Big Boy Fun.

These days, our Ziggy is still way into books. And knocking stuff down. (Blocks, laundry baskets, stacks of board books.)

He can do simple puzzles and play "open-close" with containers for many many minutes at a stretch.

After a short lived love affair with the quesadilla, he rejects them wholesale. Months after devouring hunks of avocado like a ravenous puppy, our boy spits the stuff out as if it were dirt. Though, actually, dirt doesn't slow him on his favorites: mango, beets, watermelon, hummus (sometimes), toast (sometimes), yogurt (almost all the time.)

Every day, my heart grows larger. The slap me silly it's so cute space between his two front teeth seems to hold every sacred secret truth of the Universe. He KNOWS the answers.

I am making Ziggy a book of all his "people." Daddy is making the cake Michele made us for our wedding and wants to get him a small hoops set. We're also thinking of this for his big first birthday gift.

Not that he cares so much, you know. The empty oatmeal box and my kitchen wisk are the biggest of big boy fun.

Except for us. We are his best toys, and it is to our delighted amusement and deep-like mutual appreciation that he likes us so awfully much. Ain't nothing like nothing like making that baby boy laugh or sing with contentment.

How is it that my baby is almost a YEAR OLD?

I am madly, deeply, joyfully loving him. Every every every moment.

As friend Sophie said to her Mama Loca: Dear Ziggy, "I am going to love you ALL of the days."

Many kind thanks....

to whomever sent me this brilliant bit, found hanging out in my inbox from days age and somehow missed!

Ziggy and I enjoyed it thoroughly and completely, as the original is one of our dance song favorites.
Who'll take credit for sending it my way? Brother? Jay Babcock? Jay McCurdy? or maybe Cole?

In any case, A Circus of Right ON.

"Mothers Acting Up (MAU) is an invitation to publicly & passionately advocate for the world’s children. Government leaders, corporations and the media already see mothers* as a political force to be reckoned with; it's time we flex a bit of our political power to ensure the health, education and safety of every child—wherever they live on earth."

We just love him so.

Ziggy Booty

Summer 2006
10 months old
21 lbs 8.5 oz.
30 " tall

Life with him is delicious.

LOVES: books, Bert The Dog, kitty cats, flowers, animal noises, walks through
the neighborhood, nursing, puppet shows and storytime at the library, watermelon
/ blackberries / mango / banana / yogurt, pulling up wherever and whenever,
getting kissed, baths....

Things he has said lately that crack us up: chitchen (chicken), gorilla, Hey
Bert!

The other night at bedtime, while reading a book about flowers, Olen suddenly
became aware that our bedsheets have flowers, too! It was delightful to see that
understanding and communication take place.

In the last couple days, he's become so frustrated or pissed off that he's
bitten me on purpose to show me how mad he is.

A new delight is patting EVERYTHING. And shaking mama's bosom.

Big book favorites right now are My Love For You by Susan L. Roth, Little Cloud
by Eric Carle, Kitten's First Full Moon by Kevin Henkes, and Planting A Rainbow
by Lois Ehlert.

Every day is something new.
