Happy Mother's Day to Me.

On the way to church this morning we were getting off I 40 at Demonbreun. Our "usual" vendor of The Contributor newspaper was there, but unlike most days, I was fresh out of cash for purchasing. (Generally speaking I keep quarters for Aldi, singles for The Contributor, and extra bottles of water and granola bars and apples for cranky preschoolers and mamas and other folks we might run into in need....)

Nonetheless, I rolled the window down, we had our usual pleasantries exchange. The vendor handed me a paper anyway, knowing we'd not yet bought a May issue from him, and knowing I'd hit him next time. Then he leaned sideways to see Ziggy through the window in his booster and asked, "How ya doin' Little Man?"

My son, acutely aware that these are hard times for many, hollered,"We're good, thanks! We have a home!"

It's small, it's been flood damaged. It's a mess. And yet, it is our home. And my boy knows how blessed we are. Happy Mother's Day to me.
